The 8th IEEE Workshop on Future Trends of Distributed Computing Systems

October 31-November 2, 2001

University of Bologna
 Bologna, Italy

   Sponsored by
IEEE Computer Society Technical Committee on Distributed Processing

Call for Paper Announcement

This workshop will provide a forum for researchers and practitioners in
distributed computing systems around the world to present their results,
exchange ideas and experience. In contrast to large international conferences
in this area, this workshop will place emphasis on more in-depth discussions
and project future trends.

In order to encourage closer interaction between the academic and industrial
research communities, we solicit both academic research papers and industrial
research papers (which address the related issues from an industrial researcher's
point of view to place requirements on academic research). The authors should
indicate whether their papers should be considered as academic research papers
or industrial research papers. Topics include, but are not limited to, the

        Distributed and Collaborative Agents
Java-Based Network Computing and Network Programming
Intranet and Internet Technologies for Distributed Systems
        Cluster Computing and Parallel/Distributed Systems
        Network Infrastructure for High-Performance Computing
        Broadband Computing and Telecommunication
        Active Networks and Protocol Engineering
Network Protocols, ATM, and Gigabit Ethernet
Security, Safety and Assurance of Distributed Systems
Distance Learning, and Computer Supported Cooperative Work
Timing, Reliability and Security of Communication Systems
Applications of Distributed Systems, including Distributed
Databases, Distributed AI, and Distributed OS
        Collaborative and Cooperative Software Engineering
            Distributed Multimedia Computing
        Distributed Object Computing
            Mobile Computing and Communications
Ubiquitous/Pervasive Computing and Mobile Ad-Hoc Networks
        Web-Based Computing
        Performance Modeling and Distributed Simulation
        Wireless Networks

E-mail a summary of at least 1,000 words, preferably in PDF format (Postscript
or Word format is also acceptable), describing an original work (not submitted
or published elsewhere) to one of the program co-chairs as specified below.
The 1000-word summary (approx. 2 pages, single spaced) should emphasize on:
a) the originality of the work, b) practical applications and relevance, and c)
timeliness of this research. Special focus will be on papers that describe
technology trends, and forecast new problems that may become significant in
the upcoming future. Research results that are revolutionary in nature are
particularly encouraged, but Incremental contributions are discouraged.

The summary should Include the title of the paper, the name and affiliation of each
author, a list of no more than 8 keywords and the contact information for the
correspondence author (name, position, mailing address, telephone and fax numbers,
and e-mail address).

The submissions will be peer-reviewed and authors of accepted papers will be
invited to submit full-length manuscripts for inclusion in the proceedings. It is our
plan to mail the proceedings to workshop participants before the workshop.

Papers should be submitted to one of the Program Co-Chairs as follows:
