Professor Hongji Yang

Hongji Yang is Professor of Creative Computing at the University of Leicester. He is a software engineer whose research areas include:

  • Creative Computing (Data Visualisation, Cultural Analytics, Medical Applications and many other areas)
  • Software Engineering (Maintenance, Evolution, Architecture, Metrics)
  • Computer Networking (Distributed Systems, Internet, Cloud Computing)

He has published 8 books and over 450 research articles. He has been an IEEE Computer Society Golden Core Member since 2010 and was awarded the Outstanding Contribution Award in 2010 and the Meritorious Service Award in 2015.

Some recent projects include: Brain Wave Data Processing for Creativity; 'Insight': Museum and Library Improvement with Creative Computing (with Black Radley Ltd.) funded by NESTA; and Virtual Vauxhall Gardens funded by LIAS, which was awarded a 2019 'Discovering Excellence' Award.

He has organised or taken part in many important international conferences, such as: Program Chair for IEEE Computer Software and Application Conference 2002 (COMPSAC2002); Program Co-Chair for IEEE Workshop of Future Trends in Distributed Computing Systems 2001 (FTDCS2001); Program Co-Chair, Organisation Chair and Conference Treasurer for IEEE International Conference on Software Maintenance (IEEE ICSM99).; Proceedings Chair, IEEE Conference on Software Maintenance and Reengineering (CSMR2005); Programme Co-Chair, AOSDM, Co-Located with SEKE 2006; IEEE COMPSAC Steering Committee member, 2009.
